Space City Big Band To Play Baytown Town Square!

Friday, November 8th Space City Big Band will be playing in Baytown Town Square! The square is located at 213 West Texas Avenue (77520) in Baytown. (More information HERE.)

Baytown hosts some great music programs in their town square throughout the year and we are happy to be joining them. In honor of Veteran’s Day weekend we will be re-living the USO tradition with the classic big band sounds of the 30’s and 40’s as well as covering many other popular selections.

The band will be playing from 7-9pm and will be joined by vocalist Raquel Cepeda a singer/songwriter known throughout the Houston area!

The city will be serving up free popcorn and hot dogs and will be hosting some outdoor games for everyone to enjoy. There is limited seating available so you may want to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Walton Wedding, HCC and Goodbye 2017

The band had a great year, playing for the Houston 100 Dance Club, Freedom Sunday at Gloria Dei, supporting the Paws For A Cause Event in Nassau Bay…but we really got to go out in a bang!

We played the December Party for the Houston 100 Club which was a fantastic time as it always is. We greatly appreciate playing for this event and are so very thankful for their ongoing support!

And we ended the year on a very special event…the Wedding Reception for Jamie and Chris Angelo! The party was held at The Trolley Station on the Strand in Galveston. It was a great place to play and the hospitality of the Jamie and Chris and there family and guests made it one of the bands favorite gigs! Thank you so much to all of you!

We also had the pleasure of working with Jace Tietjens at Jitters & Cocktails Event Planning. She made everything super easy for us. We greatly appreciate her help and would recommend her for anyone planning an event!

Here are some photos of the band from that evening. Thanks again to all!

SCBB Plays For South Main Baptist

Space City Big Band got a chance to play again for our friends at South Main Baptist Church. It was a fun event as they had party on the front lawn. We enjoyed it all and especially enjoyed playing LaBamba when all the kids joined us on the stage acting as our auxiliary percussionists!

Here’s a few photos and a video with one of our vocalists, Jerri Brezik. Thanks to everyone there for your hospitality and we will look forward to next time!!

SCBB Plays For The Texas Chemical Council

Space City Big Band had a fun night playing for a party for the Texas Chemical Council. They were holding a trade get together at the Moody Gardens and held a great event at The Lone Star Flight Museum to provide an evening of entertainment for their attendees. The theme was geared towards USO/WWII era, which was a perfect fit for us and all the amazing historical aircraft at the museum.

Special thanks to the folks at the museum, we always enjoy playing there, and our hosts, for a sweet setup and generous hospitality!

SCBB Plays for the 100 Dance Club at the Houston Country Club

The Space City Big Band had the distinct pleasure of entertaining the fine membership of the 100 Dance Club at the Houston Country Club. The group has been active in the Houston Area for decades and gets together for a semi-annual celebration to dine, socialize and do some dancing. We thank everyone in the club and at the Houston Country Club for their gracious hospitality! Here’s a few (blurry) photos from the event! (Thanks to our guest soundman Rene Martinez for the snapshots.)

Space City Big Band Returns To Play For Harbourview Residents

The band got a chance to entertain the residents of Harbourview again this March and here are a few of our photos. Once again, a good time was had by all…and we thank the great folks there for their hospitality and enthusiasm!

Historical Photos

Here’s a couple of shots that go way back….the first is the very beginnings of the band as the Trash Can 5 at a JSC Chili Cookoff in 1979.

Second photo is a shot taken at the Gilruth Rec Center on-site at JSC…when the band had grown and at the time , I believe, was known as the Contraband.

Finally a photo of the old Trashcan 5 band insignia! Looks like it is taking a one way trip to the recycle bin…
